Fused Glass First "Bowl of the Month" Workshop Just in Time for Father's Day

Ever wanted to try fused glass but were afraid to commit long term, well now is your chance. ClaySpace has a "Bowl of the Month" workshop. The first workshop is this Saturday, May 31 from 9:00 a.m. - Noon. The workshop will be taught by Stephanie O'Neill.

Get ready for Father’s Day with this month’s bowl. Using beautiful colors of blue glass, you will be creating a one-of-a-kind bowl that you can give to Dad as a gift or to set it out to impress your guests. In this 3-hour intensive workshop, you’ll learn the basics of cutting small pieces of fusible glass, incorporating them into your design of either a 6” round or square bowl. Supplies will be provided to help you in the design process and once your creation is complete, it will be fired two times so that the end result is a beautiful piece of art that you have created.  You can register online, by phone (630.393.2529), or by visiting ClaySpace.

Mug Monday- Tom Davison

Happy Memorial Day! Today's mug was made by Resident Artist Tom Davison. It seems appropriate that Tom's mug be featured today since Tom loves to participate and photograph Civil War reenactments and bowls with World War II veterans.

Don Metz- Resident Artist

Don Metz says,  "All my cousins were artistic and they encouraged me. In high school, I began to oil paint and attended evening classes at the American Academy in Chicago. I was fortunate to study under well-known Chicago artist and teacher Estelle Fedelle. While living in Huntley, I joined a pottery club and was immediately hooked. It seems to fit right in with my interests. I enjoy hand building pottery and developing various shapes and glazing finishes. Pottery gives me a great feeling of accomplishment. I was elated to discover that ClaySpace had moved to Lisle where I am now a Resident Artist."

Here is a little more about Don, "I was a self-employed design consultant for 20 years. I started out in store planning and design with an international design firm. Some of my accounts were Carson Pirie Scott & Co., Sears, Hart Marks and the O.K. Bazaars chain in South Africa. After leaving the firm, I started my own consulting business designing automotive facilities for Subaru, Chevrolet and Pontiac."

Don became a Resident Artist in November 2013.

Mug Wall, Mug Monday

Just outside ClaySpace's gallery, you will find our Mug Wall. It is an ever changing wall so it never gets boring. And yes, some people use the mugs while they are at ClaySpace. The mugs also come with "mug shots" of the owners so it is an interesting way to learn about the resident artists and interns. It provides inspiration and opportunities for conversation. So join us for "Mug Monday" where we will be featuring a different mug and its owner.  This coming Wednesday we will be featuring our first Resident Artist of the Month!

We hope you are as excited as we are about our new blog. We look forward to providing you with inspiration, food for thought, and more.
