Stefanie Anderson and Our Student Sculpture Show

This work in progress is being created by student Stefanie Anderson during the sculpture class offered by Jonathan Pacheco. Stefanie shared that taking the class made her move outside her comfort zone and while it was "scary at first," she is so happy. We love our students! You can see more of Stefanie's work at our September sculpture student gallery show, "Hand and Form."

This was the summer of "the Nicoles" at ClaySpace. Both of them sweet, caring and talented. Nicole Rinde, printed sleeveless dress, went back to school in California after the opening of the intern's show "In Flux." Nicole Hummel, shown with Resident Artist, teacher and Operations Director Kate Keilty, will return to Illinois State University in a week. We wish them both all the best and thank them for all their hard work this summer. They will be missed. You can still see their wonderful creations all this month in the gallery.

Mug Monday- Nicole Hummel

I know it's not Monday, but vertigo has kept me in bed the past few days and better late than never is always good in my book. Today's mug is from our wonderful intern Nicole Hummel, who will be leaving us soon and returning to college. Nicole is also part of "In Flux," the intern show now in our gallery. Their opening is this Saturday, August 9 from 1 - 4 p.m.

Here is Nicole's artist statement: "Nicole Hummel was born and raised in Naperville, Illinois, and attends Illinois State University as an Elementary Education major. Interning at ClaySpace allows her to continue to pursue her passion of ceramics. “In Flux” describes her transition as an artist. She now views the creative process in a new way that has changed her work. This change is evidenced by her incorporation of different materials in her pieces. She feels that these pieces are a landmark of the change she is experiencing personally and artistically."
